Do you have this in stock… This is probably the most frequently asked question we get so, let’s break it down. If you are asking if we have a sporran in stock the short answer is no, we don’t stock any sporrans from our brochure ready to pick and pack. We offer so many variations of sporrans foreseeing what people might order would be a waste of stock, materials, not to mention a storage nightmare. For instance, let’s take a dress sporran, we offer over 28 cantles, 8 suede colors, 18 leather options, over 30 different skins, 4 metal finishes, 6 bell options oh and custom engraving. That’s over 5,806,080 variations for a dress sporran. We could make every single variation, and it still wouldn’t be exactly what your customer would want, we experienced this most recently when we had orders asking for 1 stag tassel bell in the center and 2 thistle bells on the side tassels! So how do we combat this? It’s impressive the number of variations we have and how we get around providing this is what sets us apart from the mass-produced sporrans you get from overseas. We hold all the component parts in stock to make each of those customizations to hand, we prep as much as we can by stitching backs in bulk, stitching suede parts and bulk cutting leather parts where we can. Our preparation station in the workshop is a vital part of sporran making allowing us to pick the items we need to create bespoke orders. We have a designated member of staff who cuts the leather using the sporran knifes to make sure we have parts continuously in stock ready to go for orders. What about accessories? Yes. Majority of our accessories are on the shelf ready to ship out, we have most recently increased our stock levels to provide more pick and pack options for the busier months. There is a selection of handmade sgian dubhs and kilt pins which are made in our workshop which take slightly longer due to them being made to order. Accessories that are made to order take 5 working days, it will say it their product description which ones are handmade. When I place an order do you not make it in advance of payment? As a bespoke workshop, we follow a strict proforma workflow. While stock and materials are immediately allocated to your order upon submission to prevent them from being claimed by other partners, the crafting process begins only once payment has been settled. This policy ensures that our workshop resources are managed efficiently and that we do not hold completed inventory for unconfirmed orders. By operating this way, we maintain a fair system for all our trade partners, ensuring that our high-demand materials are always available for active, confirmed orders.
