The Renaissance of Silver: A Year of Precious Metal Commissions In 2025, we observed a distinct shift in the industry: a resurgent demand for Solid Sterling Silver and Silver-Plated commissions. As clients move toward "investment pieces," the individuality afforded by silver work has become a focal point of the bespoke experience. At Margaret Morrison, our niche lies in bridging the gap between master metalwork and expert leathercraft—ensuring the "frame" of the sporran is as luxurious as the silver it holds. The Traditionalist: Brown Charger & Antique Silver One of our standout projects involved a client with a stunning silver cantle who sought a traditional aesthetic to match. To complement the cool tones of the metal, we selected our luxurious Rust Charger leather. By replicating an archival sporran design, we created a piece that felt both historic and refreshed. The deep grain of the leather provides the perfect tactile contrast to the polished silver. The Full Sovereign Suite: White Mink & Hand-Welded Silver Personalization reached new heights with a commission centered around a solid silver hinge cantle. To "illuminate" the metalwork, we paired it with premium white mink skin, creating a high-contrast, luminous effect. The project evolved into a full suite of sterling silver accessories, showcasing the breadth of our bespoke capabilities: Custom Buttons: Two sizes of sterling silver buttons featuring the client’s personal logo. Bespoke Chain: A solid silver sporran chain, with every individual link hand-welded in our workshop. The Essentials: A matching silver-mounted Sgian Dubh and hand-finished cufflinks. This project defines the "Margaret Morrison Bespoke" standard—the ability to unify an entire outfit through a single, consistent design language. Honoring Heritage: The Duff Highlanders Finally, we were honored to work with the newly reformed Duff Highlanders. This commission required a blend of traditional foundry techniques and modern finishing. The Process: We sand-casted original badges to maintain historical accuracy. The Finish: Each badge was silver-plated to ensure they "popped" with maximum visibility while on parade. We delivered 19 of these silver-plated badges, mounted on traditional Horsehair sporrans, ready for the rigors of ceremonial duty.
